Poem: Daughter of My Heart

This piece was inspired by the bond between an AHHAH teacher and student.
It goes to show the old adage is true: You don't have to be blood to be family.

A flower bursting forth from mud, A daughter of my heart. A mirror reflecting back through time, A reminder of my start. A sincere spirit of purity, Society has sought to defile. A sorrowful forced smile, All too accustomed to denial. Another bitter abandonment, Nothing new under her sun. Another fight against the inevitable, All her hopes become undone. A mother's love, This child has never known. A teacher's compassion, This is what she's been shown. A heartfelt hug, Our forlorn farewell. A promise remains unspoken; Our bond cannot be broken.
